Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 4 cups frozen hash browns
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can 10.5 ounces cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup sour cream

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess fat.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture, frozen hash browns, cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and sour cream. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread evenly and top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper or diced jalapeños to the beef mixture.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • For a vegetarian version, replace the meat with black beans or lentils and use vegetable soup instead of cream of mushroom.
