  • 1 cup Long-Grain Rice Rinse to remove extra starch
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter For cooking the onion
  • 1 large Onion Finely chopped
  • 2 cups Chicken Broth Use vegetable broth for vegetarian option
  • 1 cup Whole Milk Swap with heavy cream if desired
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika Smoked paprika is a good alternative
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
For the Cheese
  • 1 ½ cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese Freshly grated for best melting

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Rinse the rice under cold water for about 2–3 minutes. Drain well and set aside.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, then add the onion and sauté for about 5–7 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Add the rinsed rice, chicken broth, whole milk, paprika, and season with salt and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  4. Increase heat to medium-high until it simmers. Cover and reduce heat to low, cooking for 18-20 minutes undisturbed.
  5. Remove from heat, fluff rice with a fork, and stir in cheddar cheese until melted.
  6. Serve and enjoy! Consider garnishing with paprika or fresh herbs.
