Preparation Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, and cold unsalted butter. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, about 5 minutes.
- Press the crumb mixture evenly into a greased 20x30 cm baking pan to form a solid crust.
- Clean and chop the dried figs into smaller pieces. Combine with a splash of water in a saucepan and simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes, or until soft.
- Blend the fig mixture until smooth, then spread it evenly over the prepared crust.
- In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy, then add the room temperature egg and continue to beat until smooth.
- Pour the cream cheese mixture over the fig filling and smooth out the top.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (356°F) and bake for 30 minutes, until the topping is set and lightly golden.
- Let the bars cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing.
