Ingredients
  

For the Crust
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour Use for best results.
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar Adds sweetness and hint of molasses flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Cold unsalted butter Ensure it’s very cold.
For the Fig Filling
  • 2 cups Dried figs Fresh figs are a delightful substitute.
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice Prefer fresh for brightest taste.
For the Cream Cheese Topping
  • 8 ounces Cream cheese Opt for full-fat for a silky smooth topping.
  • 1 large Egg Use room temperature for easier blending.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Real vanilla recommended.
  • 1/4 cup Sugar Blend into the cream cheese mixture.

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, and cold unsalted butter. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, about 5 minutes.
  2. Press the crumb mixture evenly into a greased 20x30 cm baking pan to form a solid crust.
  3. Clean and chop the dried figs into smaller pieces. Combine with a splash of water in a saucepan and simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes, or until soft.
  4. Blend the fig mixture until smooth, then spread it evenly over the prepared crust.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy, then add the room temperature egg and continue to beat until smooth.
  6. Pour the cream cheese mixture over the fig filling and smooth out the top.
  7. Preheat oven to 180°C (356°F) and bake for 30 minutes, until the topping is set and lightly golden.
  8. Let the bars cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing.
