Preparation Steps
  1. Peel and thinly slice the Granny Smith apples, then toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. In a skillet, melt unsalted butter and stir in dark brown sugar and corn syrup, let bubble, then add apples and cook gently.
  3. Whisk together eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, and salt in a mixing bowl to combine.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the baking dish. Pour caramelized apples into it.
  5. Layer cinnamon swirl bread over apples, press down slightly, and pour custard mixture over.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  7. Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes until top is browned and custard is set.
