For the Crispy Coating

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Gently pat the silken firm tofu dry with paper towels and cut into 1.5-inch pieces.
  2. Whisk together flour and water in a shallow bowl until smooth, then mix in smoked paprika, garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper.
  3. Dip each tofu piece in the batter, coating well, then roll in panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a skillet to about 380°F (190°C).
  5. Gently slide coated tofu pieces into the hot oil, frying for 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side.
  6. Remove tofu from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.
